Mom

Many times since my Mom passed away, I’ve found myself thinking about her and hoping she truly knew how special she was to me. I was fortunate enough to spend her final week by her side, telling her how much she meant to all of us. Although I know those moments mattered, I’ve realized how important it is to let the people we love know how much they mean to us every single day.

My parents adopted myself and all of my siblings as babies and together they created a home filled with unconditional love, support, and compassion. My Mom was one of the most caring and selfless people I’ve ever known. She always put others before herself and had a way of making everyone around her feel loved and important.

I still treasure the letters she wrote to me years ago, especially when I moved from Minnesota to California to pursue my dreams. We wrote back and forth often — something that feels so rare in today’s world of texts and emails. Those handwritten words have become some of my most cherished memories.

If I could write one more letter to my Mom today, it would go something like this…

Dear Mom,

You have always been a bright light in my life — from your loving hugs to the quiet ways you made all of us feel safe, supported, and deeply loved.

There were times when I thought I knew more than you, only to later realize you were right all along. Yet through every stage of my life, every dream, and every challenge, you remained my biggest cheerleader.

What I cherish most is our friendship — one built on honesty, trust, laughter, and unconditional love. I always knew I could come to you exactly as I was, without judgment, and you would meet me with open arms and an open heart.

You showed me what true kindness looks like. You welcomed people into your home, your heart, and your life so effortlessly, and the impact you had on others reaches farther than you probably ever realized.

Now, as I watch my own daughters grow into beautiful young women, I find myself appreciating you even more. I understand more clearly the sacrifices, strength, and unconditional love that motherhood requires.

You helped shape the woman, mother, and person I am today, and for that I will always be grateful.

Happy Mother’s Day, Mom. Thank you for loving so deeply and so beautifully.

Love always,
Kay

My affirmation for you this week is:

I will cherish the memories of those I love and appreciate them every single day.

My question for you this week is:

What is one thing your Mom taught you that has stayed with you throughout your life?
